Virginia D'Amelio Ingenito, 79, was found unresponsive by Wyckoff police officers who were the first responders at the fire on Meer Avenue just off James Way behind Route 208 just after noon Nov. 5, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

CPR was conducted on Ingenito, who reportedly was in cardiac arrest when she was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Firefighters found the rear of the house, where the kitchen was located, fully involved. The blaze instantly went to a second alarm and then to a third soon after that.

The main body of the fire was knocked down in about an hour.

Ingenito lived at Meer Avenue with her son and two grandsons at 481 Meer Avenue but was home alone at the time, responders said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Arson Investigations Unit was summoned early on.

In a brief statement issued Sunday night, Musella would only say that members of his office and Wyckoff police are investigating the cause.

Mutual responders included firefighters from:

  • Allendale

  • Fair Lawn

  • Franklin Lakes

  • Glen Rock

  • Hawthorne

  • Haledon

  • Ho-Ho-Kus

  • Midland Park

  • Mahwah

  • North Haledon

  • Oakland

  • Ramsey

  • Ridgewood

  • Saddle River

  • Waldwick

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella was asked for information through an assistant prosecutor who handles public information for his office.
